Minnesota voters have an important decision to make this election season as the renewal of the Environmental and Natural Resources Trust Fund (ENRTF) appears on the ballot for the first time in nearly 25 years. Established in the 1990s, the ENRTF is funded by 40% of Minnesota Lottery proceeds and has supported over 1,700 projects, generating more than $1 billion in funding for research, non-profits, education, and environmental initiatives across the state.
If renewed, the percentage of interest drawn from the fund would increase from five to seven percent, allowing for even greater support of critical projects that benefit Minnesota’s natural resources.
Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center has experienced firsthand the positive impact of ENRTF funding. Over the past three years, the trust fund has contributed more than $300,000 to Eagle Bluff’s Outdoor School Program, providing essential financial aid to schools that might otherwise struggle to afford this transformative experience.
“The trust fund has provided us with money to offer financial aid,” said Colleen Foehrenbacher, Executive Director of Eagle Bluff. “Many schools tell us how valuable this trip is for their students, but without financial assistance, they simply wouldn’t be able to participate.”
