What are my activity options during this event?
Session 1: Saturday 9am-12pm
CREATING COMMUNITIES WITH ALTERNATIVE LAWNS (E): We’ll talk about the importance of being in relationship to land and critters and one another. We will learn, as we winter sow native seeds, why it’s important to create communities of native habitat. You will take home planted seeds to put out in the weather and watch as they germinate in nature. Please bring three-one gallon semi-transparent milk jugs, rinsed and without caps. Extra class fee of $10 for seeds and soil.
INTRO TO FLY FISHING (M): This class will introduce you to the skills needed to get on the water, from casting to flies, to reading the water, safety, and stream etiquette. Class designed for beginners and/or fly anglers that need a refresher or want to learn more. Class will carpool to the pond in Lanesboro to fly-fish. No license needed for this catch and release program.
RIFLE SHOOTING (E): The class will start indoors with basic safe gun handling and rifle shooting fundamentals. Then the class will head to the range for hands-on shooting practice. Safety glasses, guns ammo and earplugs provided.
NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY (E): Learn the basics of taking photos of nature! Get some practice taking pictures in a variety of beautiful locations. Bring a high-tech camera or just open the app on your phone and enjoy the opportunity to photograph cool natural phenomena.
FOREST BATHING (E): Forest Bathing (or therapy) is an immersive practice intended to open participants up to nature in a slow, sensory experience. There is some walking involved but mostly slow movements and noticing things around you. Mary will guide participants through a series of invitations that support a connecting experience to nature. The walk will take place outside, please dress in layers and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Mary is currently undergoing training to become a Certified Nature and Forest Therapy Guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy.
ARCHERY (M): Learn about archery equipment and how to shoot a bow. Then try your hand on the archery range. We will be using Matthews Genesis compound bows, which have an easy draw weight.
Session 2: Saturday 1pm-4pm

Session 3: Sunday 9am-12pm
NATURE STROLL (E-M): Come learn about being a “Nature Detective” on an interactive hike. We will have a short discussion about safety and preparation before hitting the trails for whatever we can find… edible or otherwise! Please dress in layers for the weather. Long pants, closed-toe shoes or hiking boots, and ankle to knee length socks are recommended, as we will likely go off-trail. Cameras and binoculars are welcome as well!

HIGH ROPES COURSE (S): Try your hand at the treetops high ropes course that’s 25 feet off the ground! The course has easy, medium, and hard routes and is a great personal challenge course. You’ll end your experience zip lining back to the ground. Bring your camera; you’ll want someone to take your picture so you can show off what you’ve been up to.
ESSENTIALS OF HIKING & BACKPACKING (M-S): Learn what goes into planning a backpacking trip. Discover some necessities for packing and how to choose a path. Afterwards, we’ll take a hike through our campus and observe some beautiful landscapes.
WILD EDIBLES (E): Explore Eagle Bluff’s campus and learn the basics of identifying edible plants and fungi. Then, learn how to prepare some delicious food involving those edibles!
Bunk comfortably in our climate-controlled lodging! Our 31-room, 248-bed, climate-controlled dormitory will serve as your living quarters for the duration of BOW weekend.
