Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) is a beginner-friendly weekend workshop for women and girls (ages 14+) ready to try something new outdoors. Build real, hands-on outdoor skills during the day, then unwind with evening programs, campfires, and time to connect. You’ll gain confidence, try new things, and find your place in the outdoors—alongside a supportive community of women.

ARCHERY (M)
Learn about archery equipment and how to shoot a bow, then try your hand on the archery range. We will be using Matthews Genesis compound bows, which have an easy draw weight.

SHIITAKE MUSHROOMS (E-M)
Learn how to grow shiitake mushrooms and how to start your own culture using inoculation logs. Visit Eagle Bluff’s mushroom logs for inspiration. This class was a hit the last time it was offered!

MOUSE TAXIDERMY (E)
Preparing, stuffing, and mounting animal skins is an ancient art form. In this introduction, you will learn basic techniques. After a brief overview, you will prepare a mouse rug or a stuffed mouse in an action setting of your choice. All equipment and materials are provided, and you get to keep your mouse! Don’t be squeamish—most participants find the process far less gruesome than they expected.

INTRO TO FLY FISHING – Part 1 (M)
This class focuses on fly-casting and introduces the skills needed to get on the water. Participants will learn how to cast, which flies to use, and how to “read the water.” Designed for beginners or anglers looking for a refresher.

RIFLE SHOOTING (E)
Start indoors with basic safe gun handling and rifle shooting fundamentals, then head to the range for hands-on shooting practice. Safety glasses, guns, ammo, and earplugs are provided.

GPS (M)
Learn the basics of using a GPS unit while searching for hidden treasures known as geocaches. Begin by exploring how a GPS works and how to operate the device, then put your skills to the test on one of Eagle Bluff’s outdoor courses. GPS units are valuable tools for navigating terrain and marking important waypoints, including hunting or fishing spots.

INTRO TO CANOEING (M-S)
Learn canoe safety and beginner skills, including team paddling, power strokes, reading a river, and trip planning. Then enjoy a scenic paddle on the Root River. This class is designed for women with little or no canoeing experience.

SHOTGUN SHOOTING (E)
Begin indoors with basic safe gun handling and shooting fundamentals, then move to the range for hands-on practice. Safety glasses, guns, ammo, and earplugs are provided.

MEDICINAL FOREST WALK (S)
Discover wild edibles during a guided hike. Whether in your backyard, neighborhood, or local woods, learning to forage and understand what to do with what you find is both fun and rewarding.

FLY TYING (E)
Fly tying is an art. Learn about the tools and techniques used to create flies for fly-fishing and practice tying your first flies.

CANNING AND DEHYDRATING 101 (E)
In this hands-on class, you’ll learn the essentials of safe, confidence-building water-bath canning and dehydration using seasonal ingredients. Topics include prep, packing, headspace, processing, cooling, storage, and choosing trusted recipes. You’ll also learn dehydration techniques, how to identify when foods are fully dried, and proper storage methods. Leave with simple checklists, troubleshooting tips, and ideas for using preserved foods in everyday meals.

ARCHERY IN 3D (M)
Learn about archery equipment and shooting techniques, then practice on the range using Matthews Genesis compound bows. This session includes shooting at 3D targets in the field.

MEDICINAL FOREST WALK (S)

HIGH ROPES COURSE (S)
Take on the treetops high ropes course, 25 feet off the ground! This exhilarating experience offers a fun personal challenge. Bring your camera—you’ll want to capture the moment.

FLY FISHING Part 2 – ON STREAM (M)
Continue building your fly-fishing skills on the water. Practice casting, selecting flies, and reading the stream. Ideal for beginners or those looking to build confidence.

GPS (M)
Learn how to use a GPS unit while searching for geocaches. Practice navigation skills and marking waypoints across Eagle Bluff’s outdoor courses.

GUNS 101 – WITH HANDGUN SHOOTING (M)
New to firearms? This class covers the basics of use, safety, and operation in a supportive environment. Learn key terminology, then head to the range for hands-on handgun shooting practice.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations made on or before March 28 will receive a refund minus a $75 processing fee. Cancellations after March 28 are non-refundable and registrants will be charged the full registration fee.
