Hours:

Flexible, shift-based scheduling between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Shifts are posted approximately two weeks in advance, allowing Outdoor Educators to select shifts based on their availability. Hours vary based on program needs and selected shifts, up to 32 hours per week. Additional shifts may be available during Eagle Bluff’s spring peak season (April–June 2027).

Founded in 1978, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people with nature through immersive outdoor education. Each year, more than 12,000 children, families, educators, and adults visit our beautiful campus near Lanesboro, Minnesota for overnight school programs, summer camps, retreats, and outdoor adventures. Our mission is simple: to empower people to care for the earth and each other through hands-on experiences in nature.

Job Summary

Outdoor Educator(s) will be one of Eagle Bluff’s 20+ Education Department members who facilitate adventure and science education programming for our accredited Outdoor School. Fall is Eagle Bluff’s peak Outdoor School season, and we are seeking additional instructors to help meet the increased demand for immersive learning experiences during this busy time of year. These classes provide participants with experiences that foster a sense of respect, stewardship, and community; develop life skills such as teamwork and problem-solving; and promote positive connections with the outdoors.

An ideal candidate will have experience working with children, effective interpersonal skills, and comfort in the natural world. Successful candidates will be adaptable, dependable, and excited to help create meaningful outdoor learning experiences for students.

Essential Functions:

Teaching | 95%

  • Teach 3-hour adventure and science classes typically serving 4th-8th grade students.
  • Set-up and clean-up teaching spaces.
  • Inventory class supplies and kits.

Education Department Team Member | 5%

  • Demonstrate professionalism and show sincerity/sensitivity especially in areas of participant experience.
  • Be flexible and maintain a positive attitude and composure when working alone/in teams, receiving constructive criticism, and during times of stress.

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Skills
  • Can communicate effectively with children and adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Dependable, flexible, calm under pressure, and positive.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • At least one year of experience working with children.
  • Current first aid and CPR/AED certification from a nationally recognized provider (American Heart Association, American Red Cross, American Safety & Health Institute, National Safety Council). The training must include an instructor-led skill session.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to work outdoors over uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
  • Willing to operate and participate in adventure activities such as: high ropes courses, rock wall, etc.
  • General knowledge of the natural world and/or outdoor recreation.
  • Experience with adapting instruction to meet the needs of different learners.

Most of our guests are youth (5th-8th graders) who visit our campus for multiple days with teachers and parent chaperones. Our menu must be focused around this age group but also have the ability to satisfy adult guests. It is also essential that we are able to meet the many dietary needs of our guests and staff, which often include creating balanced, nutritious meals for non-dairy, vegetarian, vegan, or gluten free items. We also strive to use locally sourced/grown products.

    Eagle Bluff is seeking team members to join our food service team by preparing high-quality, healthy meals for a diverse range of guests. Most of our visitors are 5th–8th grade students attending multi-day programs with their teachers and parent chaperones. Team members must be committed to accommodating a variety of dietary needs, including vegetarian, vegan, non-dairy, and gluten-free options, ensuring balanced meals for all.
