Founded in 1978, Eagle Bluff Environmental Learning Center is a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people with nature through immersive outdoor education. Each year, more than 12,000 children, families, educators, and adults visit our beautiful campus near Lanesboro, Minnesota for overnight school programs, summer camps, retreats, and outdoor adventures. Our mission is simple: to empower people to care for the earth and each other through hands-on experiences in nature.

Creating a clean, safe, and welcoming environment is essential to every guest’s experience, making this position an important part of our team.

Job Summary

Eagle Bluff is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Lead Housekeeper to oversee daily housekeeping operations and help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for our guests. This position provides day-to-day direction and support to part-time housekeeping staff while also performing hands-on cleaning, laundry, and light facilities tasks throughout campus.

Successful candidates enjoy staying active, take pride in a job well done, pay attention to detail, and enjoy working both independently and as part of a team. No housekeeping experience is required as we’re happy to train the right person. Because Eagle Bluff serves school groups, families, camps, and retreats throughout the year, every staff member contributes to creating an outstanding guest experience.

Essential Functions:
  • 40% Clean and maintain guest facilities, including dormitory rooms, hallways, public gathering spaces, restrooms, stairs, guest lounge, bathrooms, and other common areas to ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. Participate in a rotating schedule of preventative guest room inspections and follow established treatment protocols when needed.
  • 15% Provide daily leadership and coordination for housekeeping operations, including directing the work of part-time housekeeping staff, establishing daily priorities, providing guidance and training, assisting with quality checks, and ensuring housekeeping standards are consistently met.
  • 15% Maintain interior spaces and surfaces, including vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, carpet cleaning, dusting, window washing, sanitizing, and completing detailed cleaning tasks throughout campus.
  • 10% Assist with facility and grounds maintenance, including sweeping sidewalks, painting, steam cleaning carpets, moving furniture, turning mattresses, changing light maintenance items, and other seasonal projects.
  • 10% Manage laundry and linen operations, including collecting, washing, folding, stocking linens and blankets, maintaining linen closets, and coordinating with education staff to ensure linens are ready for arriving groups.
  • 5% Manage housekeeping supplies, equipment, and purchasing, including maintaining inventory, ordering supplies, organizing storage areas, and ensuring staff have the materials needed to complete their work effectively.
  • 5% Support guest services and campus operations by reporting maintenance issues, communicating with coworkers, assisting other departments as needed, and helping maintain Eagle Bluff’s high standards of hospitality.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Safely use cleaning products and equipment according to established procedures.
  • Report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged property, or lost-and-found items promptly.
  • Assist with training seasonal staff who live in the dormitory on cleaning procedures and expectations for shared living spaces.
  • Participate in campus-wide projects and special events as needed.
  • Represent Eagle Bluff in a friendly, professional, and welcoming manner with guests, volunteers, and coworkers.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, continuous improvement, flexibility, and problem-solving.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • No prior housekeeping experience required; Eagle Bluff is willing to train the right candidate.
