Accessibility at Eagle Bluff
At Eagle Bluff, we are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all visitors feel welcome and supported. We offer a wide range of accommodations to ensure that everyone can access our campus, activities, and programs.
We offer a variety of accommodations to support mobility, sensory, medical, dietary, communication, and other accessibility needs. If you need an accommodation not listed below, please contact us before your visit so we can help plan the best possible experience.
Campus Accessibility
Our campus is designed to be accessible and comfortable for all visitors.
Campus features include:
- Ramps are provided where needed.
- Elevators in all multi-level buildings (except the Schroeder Visitor Center)
- Wheelchair-accessible buildings
- Ramps where needed
Our dormitory includes:
- Two-story, climate-controlled facility
- Wide hallways and doorways
- Elevator access to every floor
- Accessible entrance with ramp
- Four accessible guest rooms
- Capacity for up to 248 guests in 31 rooms
Adaptive equipment is available to support participation in the following activities:
- High Ropes Course
- Indoor Rock Climbing Wall
- Archery
- Canoeing
Staff are trained to safely assist participants using adaptive equipment. Manual wheelchairs are also available on campus.
A first aid room with basic supplies and common over-the-counter medications is located in the dormitory. Additional medical resources include:
- Refrigerated medication storage in the guest lounge
- AEDs in the Dormitory, Discovery Center, and Schroeder Visitor Center
- Certified First Aid, CPR, and AED-trained instructors
- First aid kits carried during all Eagle Bluff activities
Two private lactation rooms are available in the Dormitory and Schroeder Building. Each room includes a chair, sink, and electrical outlet.
Nursing is welcome anywhere on campus. Visitors are encouraged to choose the location where they feel most comfortable.
Accessible parking is available throughout campus.
- Designated accessible parking spaces are located near all main entrances.
- Parking spaces are clearly marked and accommodate larger vehicles.
- Parking is free for all visitors.

All campus restrooms are wheelchair accessible. Features include:
- Manual flushing toilets
- Manual sinks
- Paper towel dispensers (no loud hand dryers)
- Auto-flushing urinals
- All-gender/companion restrooms on every floor of the dormitory
Child-sized changing tables are available:
- Near the restrooms in the Schroeder Building
- In both the men’s and women’s restrooms in the Dining Hall
Peace Nook
Located in the dormitory, the Peace Nook provides a quiet space with books and coloring supplies for guests who need a break from activity.
Reduced-Noise Restrooms
Campus restrooms feature manual flushing toilets, manual sinks, and paper towel dispensers instead of loud air dryers.
Service animals are welcome on campus in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Pets and emotional support animals (ESAs) are not permitted inside Eagle Bluff buildings.
Our campus includes a variety of natural-surface trails with hills, uneven terrain, and seasonal mud or snow. Manual wheelchairs designed for paved surfaces may not be suitable on many of these trails.
For visitors seeking a more accessible outdoor experience, our Limited Mobility Trail near the Schroeder Building features a gravel surface and scenic views of the Root River Valley.
If mobility assistance is needed, please contact us before your visit. We are happy to recommend appropriate routes or discuss available transportation options.
Outdoor School Accessibility
Minnesota Schools
Eagle Bluff has received state funding to help make overnight outdoor education more accessible. Eligible Minnesota schools may receive up to 100% coverage for a three-day, two-night Outdoor School experience, including:
- Program fees
- Busing assistance
- Stipends for lead teachers
Funding is made possible through:
Minnesota Environment & Natural Resources Trust Fund (LCCMR): $3.9 million awarded to Minnesota’s five accredited Outdoor Schools over three years.
Outdoor School for All Minnesota (2025): $848,000 over two years to expand overnight outdoor learning opportunities for students in grades 4–12.
Financial assistance is determined annually based on each school’s percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. Schools must complete a funding assessment each year, and award amounts may vary.
Free Attendance for Medically Necessary Support Staff
The following support staff attend Outdoor School free of charge:
- Nurses
- Special Education Teachers
- School Counselors
- Interpreters
- Paraprofessionals
- Parents or guardians providing approved one-to-one student support
Contact the Outdoor School Manager to begin a funding assessment or confirm staff eligibility.
Schools may share prayer needs on the Scheduling Form.
When requested, Eagle Bluff will provide a quiet, private prayer space within the dormitory. These accessible rooms include a table and chair and are located near restrooms.
Individual participants may also note prayer needs on their Medical Form if those needs are not included in their school’s submission.
We believe every student should have the opportunity to fully participate in Outdoor School.
Our instructors are trained to support students with physical, intellectual, visual, hearing, and other accessibility needs.
Accommodations may include:
- Modified activities
- Adaptive equipment
- Additional staff assistance when appropriate
To ensure we can prepare appropriate accommodations, please discuss your group’s needs with the Outdoor School Manager before your visit.
Because many campus trails include hills, uneven terrain, rocks, mud, or snow, manual wheelchairs may not be suitable in some outdoor areas.
To support mobility throughout campus, Eagle Bluff provides:
- Electric golf cart
- Gas-powered golf cart
- John Deere Gator
- Heated Polaris Ranger with seatbelts
Vehicles are assigned based on participant needs.
If someone in your group requires transportation or additional mobility support, please notify the Outdoor School Manager before your visit so accommodations can be arranged.
Outdoor School participants also have access to the adaptive equipment described earlier on this page.
Meal Accommodations
Located in the dormitory, the Peace Nook provides a quiet space with books and coloring supplies for guests who need a break from activity.
Eagle Bluff is a peanut-, tree nut-, and shellfish-free campus. We accommodate:
- Medical dietary needs
- Food allergies
- Religious dietary needs
- Vegetarian diets
- Vegan diets
Please list dietary needs on each participant’s Medical Form.
Schools requesting pork-free or halal meals should indicate this on the Scheduling Form.
Questions about meal accommodations may be directed to our Food Service Manager.
Bringing Your Own Food
Guests may store food in the guest lounge refrigerator, freezer, and microwave.
All food brought to campus must also be free of peanuts, tree nuts, and shellfish.
Food Used in Classes
Some classes include optional food tastings.
Alternative options or opting out are always available.
Please contact the Outdoor School Manager with questions about foods used during instructional activities.
